FAQ about Valentine’s Day Flowers

What flowers should I send on Valentine's day?

In most cases, roses are the go-to Valentine’s Day flowers, and it isn’t difficult to see why. There is no flower more famous for its association with love and romance than the rose. Red roses and pink roses especially are popular for expressing love, romance, infatuation, enchantment, and other appropriate Valentine’s Day feelings. Order through Ode à la Rose to send your Valentine a dozen red roses—perhaps the quintessential Valentine’s Day gift.

What is the meaning of Valentine's day?

The roots of Valentine’s Day are difficult to trace. Generally, the day is associated with St. Valentine. However, since no one is quite sure exactly who St. Valentine was or what he did, the meaning of Valentine’s Day can sometimes be a bit cloudy. Most stories point to Valentine’s Day being an evolution of Lupercalia, a festival from Ancient Roman times in which young men would draw the names of young women from an urn and then be linked as romantic companions for a year.

Later, the Pope changed the rules, so that young men and women were drawing names of saints that they were supposed to emulate as their role models. (Around this time was also when St. Valentine became the patron saint of the festival.) However, young men continued to mark the romantic traditions of the day by writing love notes to the women they were trying to woo. These notes became Valentines and the day came to be known as Valentine’s Day.

When is Valentine's Day?

Each year, Valentine’s Day takes place on February 14th, regardless of the day of the week.
