How to Take Care of Your Plants After Delivery?

Taking care of indoor flowery plants and indoor greens can be quite different. For instance, plants like snake plants, jade plants, and ferns do not bloom, whereas potted orchids and lilies do. At Ode à la Rose, we offer genuine care for your plants even after delivery. Here are some tips to ensure your plants thrive and bring joy to your space.

Keep Them Hydrated, But Not Drenched!

Watering is crucial but varies from plant to plant. Use room-temperature water to avoid shocking the roots. Ensure the water drains out of the bottom holes of the pot to prevent overwatering, which can lead to root rot.

For plants like ferns that prefer moist soil, check the soil frequently and water when the top inch feels dry. On the other hand, succulents and cacti, like jade plants, need less frequent watering and should dry out between waterings.

Let There Be Light... But Not Too Much!

Different plants have varying light needs. Flowering plants like orchids and lilies thrive in bright, indirect sunlight. Place them near windows that receive plenty of natural light but avoid direct sunlight that can scorch the leaves. Indirect light from a north-facing window is sufficient for low-light plants like snake plants.

Humidity Hints for Happy Plants

Many indoor plants, especially tropical ones, prefer higher humidity levels. You can increase humidity by placing plants on trays filled with water and pebbles or using a humidifier. Keep the temperature stable and avoid placing plants near cold drafts or heat sources. Most houseplants thrive in temperatures between 60-75°F.

Feed Me, Seymour!

Feeding your plants with the right fertilizer is essential for their growth. Use a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every two to four weeks during the growing season. Reduce feeding in the winter when most plants are dormant. For flowering plants, fertilizers with higher phosphorus content can encourage blooming.

Time to Repot or Not?

After delivery, consider repotting your plants if they appear root-bound or if the soil quality is poor. Use well-draining soil mixes, adding perlite or vermiculite to improve drainage. Clay pots are excellent for plants like lilies, as they provide good air circulation and prevent root rot.

Pests: The Unwanted Guests

Keep an eye out for pests like aphids, spider mites, and mealybugs. Regularly inspect your plants and use organic pest control methods, such as a mixture of water, dish soap, and rubbing alcohol. Misting plants can help deter spider mites, especially on the undersides of leaves.

By following these tips, you'll ensure that your indoor plants, whether they're bloomers like orchids or greens like snake plants, remain healthy and vibrant. Enjoy the beauty and freshness they bring to your space!
